MUST SEE: Andreis Costa SOLO #Art Show in #LA This Thursday

The man behind the critically acclaimed “Bars & Hooks”, “Doctor Doctor” and “Notorious” cover art for AWKWORD’s #WorldView singles, Andreis Costa has his first solo show in Los Angeles opening THIS Thursday, May 9. Cut With The Kitchen Knife is a MUST SEE. And DON’T SLEEP on the Opening Reception…

BOA/SOA Gallery is pleased to present “Cut With The Kitchen Knife”, a recent collection of works on paper by Andreis Mikael Costa. Currently living in Los Angeles, the artist has been working with collage since 2008. Raised in New York City, Costa studied photography and studio art at Bard College. This will be his first exhibition in Los Angeles.

The title of the show is a reference to German DaDaist Hannah Höch’s 1919 piece Cut with the Kitchen Knife through the Beer-Belly of the Weimar Republic. Höch’s work has not only been an inspiration for Costa but the title also represents the process of how the collages were originally created. Each piece is constructed through a meticulous process that begins with the photographing and collecting of found images produced as Xerox prints which are then hand-cut and attached to paper to create the final collage.

Costa’s work challenges the viewer by engaging the psyche, demanding differentials in psychological interpretations through a dialogue consisting of several levels of perception. From afar, these works are observed as symmetrical shapes, inspired by Rorschach Ink Blots and geometry, that, when approached by the viewer, reveal a narrative shaped by observations and reflections on political climate, violence, war, love, lust, and preconceived notions of gender roles as portrayed in film and mass media.

Opening Reception Thursday, May 9th from 7-9pm at BOA/SOA Fine Art Gallery, 607 West Knoll (West Knoll and Melrose), Hollywood, CA 90069 T: 310.734.6411 W: http://boaartgallery.com/
