The last time Slim K and AWKWORD connected it was for the Chopstar’s Slowdown of AWKWORD’s Harry Fraud-produced song “Bars & Hooks” featuring Sean Price and The Kid Daytona. (HipHopWired World Premiere.)
This time the rising star from OG Ron C’s crew chops & screws AWKWORD’s daunting drug anthem “Requiem”.
The song features production from ATG; guest verses from Ess Vee, as well as SoulStice and CuzOH! Black; and a sing-along hook led by AWKWORD, with backup vocals from Ess Vee, Australia’s Jay Daniels and Grindhouse Gang’s Mark Deez.
With molly and promethazine syrup taking over the Hip Hop scene and defining the image and work of many major artists, this is a timely sarcastic pro-drug-slash-drug-PSA song, now so fittingly purple-ized by Slim K.
As DJ Z (DJBooth) said, “Need some fresh music to play at your next kegger? AWKWORD’s got just the thing — provided you like your party music with a pitch-black edge.”
On March 4, 2013, The DJBooth officially world premiered the latest collaboration from the cross-country trio of Tranzformer, Tenacity and AWKWORD: “Rap Journals”, off Tranz’s Diamonds And Gems producer project.
The write-up is glowing, and the song went on to make the site’s Top 20 Indie Hip Hop Songs List. It has also appeared on numerous other sites, with critical acclaim.

For those wondering: Yes, this is an AWKWORD side-project, completed, under the radar, during AWK’s time creating what The Source is calling his “highly anticipated” (DJBooth-sponsored 100% for-charity global Hip Hop) project World View. Italian producer Cletus is a participant in World View, and the duo’s chemistry organically led to the production of this mini EP.

Rock The Dub presents: AWKWORD & Cletus are Remnants & Rejects.
Dropping The Week of October 8, 2012 via rockthedub.com. Stay tuned…
In anticipation of his forthcoming DJBooth-sponsored 100% for-charity global Hip Hop project World View, New York City-based rap artist AWKWORD links up with producer Cletus of Italy for an eight-minute non-stop mix of raw street music, with a Euro-electro spin… AWKWORD & Cletus are Remnants & Rejects… Aside from a brief singing cameo from Block McCloud, Remnants & Rejects showcases only the emcee-producer duo of AWKWORD and Cletus. And it may not be what you’ve come to expect from the self-proclaimed People’s Champ, AWKWORD. That’s why the project couldn’t be presented by a regular run-a-the-mill rap site, and the artists went right to Rock The Dub.

Need some fresh music to play at your next kegger? AWKWORD‘s got just the thing—provided you like your party music with a pitch-black edge. Described by the artist as a “frat party track with the worst of tragic undertones,” Requiem finds the headliner trading verses with SoulStice, Ess Vee and Cuz OH! Black over a brooding instrumental by ATG. This moody selection is just one of many quality jams set for inclusion on DJBooth-sponsored, 100%-for-charity street album World View, set to hit our mixtape page for digital purchase in the near future.
Below: stream and/or download the song via soundcloud; or, take part in the #WorldView movement — download the better-than-CD-quality version at your own price via bandcamp, with 100% of the proceeds donated to our charity.
Every rapper claims to keep it real, but most are so lost in fantasy they don’t even know their own reality anymore. Not AWKWORD. A New York City emcee who’s dedicated himself to the lost art of pre-Giuliani hip-hop, everything you need to know about the man’s music is contained in new single “Doctor, Doctor”. Making its world premiere on RefinedHype, in addition to a subtly addictive beat from MajoR R.E. and a guest verse from GuessWho?, “Doctor, Doctor” is the kind of rap that’s not afraid to truly let listeners inside.
“Doctor, Doctor” is off AWKWORD’s upcoming album “World View”, which has a dope background: all proceeds from the album, which includes features from Joell Ortiz, KRS-One and more, will go to Aim to Live, a 501c3-registered nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering urban youth. Fucks yeah, it’s bigger than hip-hop.
Here’s another cut from AWKWORD’s World View album; if you missed the Refined Hype premiere of this, for shame. Without creating alters, AWK breaks down his ills to the doctor on this one, with GuessWho? alongside for the ride. I do this a lot, but usually inside my own mind, or in text via twitter… or this blog. We all have problems and stress, it’s just in how you handle that shit. Real talk on this one, with beats from Malaysia. Malaysia! Hip-Hop is global, pricks!
I have seen this name floating out there for some time. This is my first time really sitting down to listen to Awkword though. I like what I hear from this single off his yet to be released album, World View. Therapy music…
I realized I had to post this track for several very important reasons — DJBooth.net sponsored Awkword’s latest project. And this track “Radio 2.0” features, perhaps most fitting, the legendary KRS One, the founder of the Stop the Violence Movement back in the late 80s. (“Self Destruction” immediately comes to mind.)
I’m very proud to be able to post this one. It’s hot and it’s pure hip-hop at it’s very finest. And it continues a tradition of hip hop and activism both locally and globally. (Interestingly, Awkword’s flow reminds me a bit of Homeboy Sandman.)
It’s in the name itself: World View is all about the global connections we make through Hip Hop music x culture. So, it should come as no surprise that we considered every continent when looking for the person/team to mix & master this important project. We went no further than Switzerland’s Vinyl Digger.
scratchin, blendin, cuttin, jugglin. remember hot 90s mixtapes? dats how i do!
And it doesn’t hurt that Vinyl Digger has the co-sign of two trustworthy World View participants, emcee Tenacity and Brown Bag AllStar-affiliate producer Tranzformer, each of whom describe Vinyl Digger as, simply, “dope”.
Dope: The Kid Daytona - Angela’s Sister (prod. 6th Sense)
My friend and Bars & Hooks collaborator The Kid Daytona links up once again with producer 6th Sense for a smooth, laid back, introspective track sampling the great Bob James. Look out for more free downloads and The Interlude III mixtape from Daytona, plus future records from him, myself and Harry Fraud.
